Tanzania 2012 and Faith's Substance

TANZANIA 2012 Maasai Tribe

I was told that I may have to wear these clothes to minister
to the Maasai.  (Don't laugh...you might be next...smile!)

We just wanted to give you a quick update on an exciting new opportunity that is currently underway. Around the end of July/beginning of August, we will be working with Iris Tanzania to minister to the Maasai Tribe. Tyren will travel to Tanzania, and will host a seminar for pastors and others in Maasai Land and also hold evangelism events. Pastor Deus, Director of Iris Tanzania, is now conducting preliminary ministry in Maasai Land to prepare things for when I arrive. Afterwards, we (Tyren and Tiffany) want to bring the 5 leaders of Iris Ministries Tanzania together in Mwanza for a special meeting that will last about 3 days in order for them to personally meet together and set the stage for new things the Lord has put on their hearts for Iris Ministries Tanzania.

Soon, we’ll send out a blog with more information. We invite you to join us in prayer and partner with us to help support Iris Ministries Tanzania in fulfilling their God-given commission.

The Substance of Faith – Believing the Lord’s Report

During Sunday service, I had to stop right in the middle of my sermon to ask the church to pray for Mr. W’s wife. Mr. W didn’t look well, so I couldn’t go on preaching. His wife was far away in their family’s garden harvesting crops. He had received a message that she was very sick. She had already been sick for days with a fever and wasn’t improving. The church prayed for her, and then I honestly felt that the Holy Spirit moved us into praise and thanksgiving for her healing. I believed something happened. But, Monday morning, Mr. W came to my house upset. Someone had come with another message (after Sunday’s service) saying that he needed to go see his wife because she wasn’t doing well at all. We prayed with him before he left to see her.  When Mr. W went to see his wife, to his surprise, she was fine and eating normally.  She told him that on Sunday about 12 noon (a little after we had prayed for her in church) she suddenly felt a hot sensation come upon her, and she felt the fever leaving her body. A few hours later she was fine. Her children, who were also reported as not feeling well, were also fine. Mr. W explained to her that she was totally healed right after the church had prayed for her. He told his wife that what she felt was the power of the Holy Spirit upon her, and that Jesus was there with her to heal her.  F.Y.I: Mr. W’s wife received Jesus over a year ago, but because of threats of being excommunicated from her Muslim side of the family, she has not been following Christ. Pray that God would shower her with His love and understanding, free her from fear, and help her to fully surrender her life to become a disciple of Jesus Christ.

Pray that the Lord would continue to have mercy on us, show us His salvation, and give us the privilege of revealing His name to people that believe and others who refuse to believe. We desperately need the presence of the Lord, so that His kingdom would come in life changing ways here in Lichinga and beyond.

In His great love,

Tyren and Tiffany Haynes

Tiffany's Sister Visits Lichinga

Kim, Tiffany's sister, is visiting us here in Lichinga.  Tiffany, of course, and the rest of us are very excited to have her here.  Even though Kim reads our blogs and we've talked to her from Mozambique, so many things here still surprised her, having now seen them in person.  After she shared some things with us, we asked her to write it down, sharing some of her heart, so that we could include it in our next blog entry.  Here's a fresh perspective of Lichinga from a visitor.

Kim writes:  Though I doubted it was as cold in Lichinga as Tiffany had told me, I obediently packed my flannel pajamas and warm socks. I was surprised when I actually had to use them along with three blankets to keep warm at night. Yes, it does get cold in Africa! Another thing I found very surprising when I arrived in Lichinga was the price of food. I had read the blogs about how expensive things are, but I guess I had to see it to believe it. A couple of trips to the grocery store confirmed that things like meat, cheese, and ice cream are not affordable and reserved for special occasions. I had to think twice about purchasing food items I would typically buy in America on a daily basis. I am witnessing how the items we send in care packages go a long way to improve my family’s quality of life. My visit to Lichinga has shown me how critical it is to support missionaries. Everyone is not called to be a missionary, but I feel it is our duty to support the people God has called to “make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28:19). I know it would not have been possible for me to have the awareness of what life is like if I had not spent time here. It does not take very much to make a very dramatic difference. I am leaving Lichinga with a renewed purpose to support missionaries who are advancing God’s kingdom. This experience has been invaluable!

Part of the orientation and culture training for new Iris missionaries at our center includes a village outing, "ikwalola a dyangu".  We invited Kim to go along with Mandy.  In the village, one will spend hours with a local family that doesn't speak your language - just you and a local family.
(Adults left to right:  Mandy (new Iris intern), Kim (Tiffany's sister) and Lucia (local host)

Their host cooked them cove (greens) and cema (corn flour boiled to a mashed potato like texture).
Cema is the "staple" food item.

Playing with kids is a treasure, and they are everywhere.
Behind is a large black tin used to heat up water, and the mud "house" used for cooking.
Cooking is generally done outside of the main house where one sleeps.

Playing and having fun.  Perhaps, kids are the same everywhere.
You know what?  You can be our next visitor!  Just send us an email (heartsforharvest@yahoo.com), get your passport ready, and let the journey begin!  Hallelujah!!!  You'll have a great time here, and most of all, we are sure you'll experience Jesus Christ in new ways.  You are welcome to Lichinga, Mozambique, Africa.
Love,

Tyren and Tiffany Haynes

5th Year Anniversary in Mozambique: 2007 - 2012

Celebrate With Us!  June 1, was our 5th year anniversary since the day we entered Mozambique.  From our teenage years, we both wanted to be missionaries, but truly didn't know the extent of what that meant until we started serving overseas, June 1, 2007.  Now, 5 years later, we are so much different, have matured greatly (the process is still going), and through the Lord's great mercy we have done things we've never dreamed of.  Our God has been good to us. We are missionaries, and are looking forward to many more years of serving Jesus Christ in the nations.

Here are a few photos of 'Then and Now'.

Amerel (6) and Isaiah (3) in Pemba, Mozambique (2007).

We only had two kids (Isaiah and Amerel)...and thought that that was it.

now called the Harvest School, in Pemba, Mozambique)

Home in Lichinga, Mozambique 2007.

We had to make our own beds (2007, Lichinga)

We all slept in one room that was very crowded (2007 - 2008).  Tiffany also
held homeschool in the same room.

Suddenly, 6 years after Isaiah, we started having kids again.
Now we have 4.  What a blessing! (Left to right:  Amerel, Berasia, Isaiah and Chayah)

Now we live in our own house at the Iris Lichinga Center.  It's nice to
have more room for our family of 6.

We've evangelized and ministered in streets, stores, bars, discos, villages and churches.  Many have been saved and healed.  God has been good!  We minister in Mozambique and Tanzania, and have evangelized in Malawi.

Thank you for partnering with us and for caring so much about us these past 5 years.  Your love, prayers, giving, and friendship means so much! All that the Lord enabled us to do thus far, would not have been possible without you.  In grace and great expectation, we look forward to the greater things the Lord has prepared for us in the years ahead.  Let's go forth together! Many blessings and love to you all.  For His glory alone.

Serving with a passion for His presence,

Tyren and Tiffany Haynes (and Amerel, Isaiah, Chayah, & Berasia)
